From interpreting DOT plan sets to running live bid simulations\, this workshop builds your confidence across core estimating tasks while sharpening your ability to structure\, analyze and communicate estimates. You’ll strengthen your foundation in preconstruction by practicing modern workflows that incorporate risk awareness\, defensible pricing\, and AI-assisted tools—all applied to key heavy civil project scopes like earthwork\, paving\, structures\, and utilities. \n\n\n\nEach session progresses your skills with a mix of guided instruction\, collaborative exercises\, and demonstrations. You’ll interpret plans and specs to extract and organize quantities\, build unit prices by assembling labor\, equipment\, and materials. You’ll walk away with sharpened technical skills\, a clearer risk lens\, and practical tools you can immediately apply on the job. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n. \n\n\n\n Workshop Outcomes \n\n\n\n\nIdentify scope gaps\, key bid items\, and quantity drivers in heavy civil DOT plans\n\n\n\nBuild structured estimates using Excel and other technology tools\n\n\n\nUse AI prompts to run takeoffs and historical cost analysis\n\n\n\nSimulate a real bid day — defend and adjust numbers in teams\n\n\n\nCreate a personal action plan for real-world application\n\n\n\nRecognize risks and set appropriate contingencies\n\n\n\n\nWho should attend: Early-career civil estimators (0–3 years)\, project/field engineers transitioning into preconstruction\, and pros supporting DOT bids. \n\n\n\n**Participants will need to access Excel and Google Drive during this workshop. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTechnology and ParticipationFor the classroom:– Please have Zoom downloaded.– Computer with dual monitor preferred.– Laptop is good with a separate tablet to access the materials. \n\n\n\n\n\nFor Participation:– Camera\, built in or added on and ready to stream to the classroom.– Headphones or earbuds with microphones are preferred.– Each student should be on their own computer/laptop/tablet.– If this is a software training\, please have the software downloaded and logged in. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCancellation Policy: \n\n\n\nA full refund will be given to cancellations made 14 calendar days prior to the class kick-off. After such time\, no refunds will be given. Replacements are acceptable and must be submitted via email to meetings[@]agc.org. \n\n\n\nAGC reserves the right to cancel programs up to 10 days prior to the start date if a minimum number of attendees is not met. \n\n\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Construction Logistics and Productivity
DESCRIPTION:Workshop is held ThursdayNovember 1210 AM – 2 PM EST \n\n\n\n*Participation in this workshop is for one person per registration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Course\n\n\n\nManaging labor\, materials\, and site logistics is one of the greatest challenges\, and risks\, on any construction project. Productivity is directly impacted by how effectively crews\, materials\, and workflows are planned and coordinated\, yet logistics and productivity are often overlooked in day-to-day planning. \n\n\n\nThe 4-hour Construction Logistics and Productivity Workshop focuses on practical strategies to improve productivity through better logistics planning\, workforce efficiency\, and material flow. Through discussion\, real-world scenarios\, and hands-on application of simple planning tools\, participants will explore proven best practices that can be applied to projects of any size and across all contracting disciplines. \n\n\n\nParticipants will leave with actionable takeaways and an implementation plan they can immediately apply to their own projects to improve productivity\, reduce waste\, and increase profitability. This workshop emphasizes collaboration through small group discussions and scenario-based problem solving\, keeping participants actively engaged throughout the session. \n\n\n\n\n\n. \n\n\n\nWorkshop Outcomes: \n\n\n\n\nDevelop a site logistics plan that supports efficient workflow\n\n\n\nIdentify common sources of productivity loss in the field\n\n\n\nApply basic productivity metrics to evaluate performance\n\n\n\nImprove crew coordination and material flow\n\n\n\nUse simple planning tools to reduce waste and increase efficiency\n\n\n\n\nWho should attend: This workshop is applicable to all types of contractors and projects.
